The Purana is divided into five sections - The Birth, Childhood, Pre-Premalayam Period, Premalayam Period and Post-Premalayam Period. There are 18 chapters in all. This book provides information on Ayyappa's genealogy and early life which is not found in the later books of the Mala or Prabhandha. 2) TANAVATHA YOGA and its HINDRANCIES - This book is a vital document which recorded the ancient Sauna and Sangam literature. It is divided into eleven chapters. 3) THE LOKAMASTER or the SCRIPTURES ON GENDER - The author of this book compiled the verses of all Old and New Testament as well as those from Hindu scriptures such as Yajur Veda, Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavadgita and other Puranas into one scriptural text. He then prepared Gita Govinda in those verses. This work is now considered as Guru Granth Sahib or Holy Book by Sikhs. It is based on the Old Testament, New Testament and Gita Govinda. It is widely available in printed form. 4) THE LAY OF PARADISE OR LIBERATION - This is the oldest text related to Ayyappa. It has been discovered by two scholars in Kerala. The verses of this book are only available in manuscript form and not in printed form. The subject matter of this book under discussion includes details about Ayyappa's genealogy, the history of his birth, pre-premalayam period, his travels around Malabar area during pre-premalayam period and also after premalayam period which are discussed in great detail . 5) SATHYATHOOPA PADAM – The first book on Ayyappa was written by the poet saint Thunchaththu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, who was the guru of Malayalam language and is considered as the first person to write poems in Malayalam. This book is highly revered and read by both Hindus and Christians alike. 6) LOALARASA -– Ramanunjachan's version of the legend is addressed to a Hindu king called Akashavarma (IAST: Akāśavarma). The legend is further expanded by the poet Nārāyanan Nambudiri in the song-cycle "Sastha Avatara".
